This Weekend: Places to Go, Things to Do

There's something for dog lovers, theater-goers, people-watchers and margarita drinkers this weekend.

It's the first weekend in the merry month of May, and there's no shortage of things to do in Dundalk as well as in neighboring communities.

Saturday is a busy day right here in Dundalk, with enough activities to keep you busy all of your waking hours.

Bark for Life will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Hope/St. Luke School.

Dundalk Community Theater presents "All Shook Up," a new musical based on the music of Elvis Presley, at 8 p.m. in the John Ravekes Theater in K Building on the CCBC Dundalk campus.

If you don't mind traveling a bit, the venerable Towsontown Spring Festival is this weekend.

The longstanding Towson community festival — this year's fair is the 45th annual — includes plenty of entertainment, food, activities and vendors.

Saturday is Free Comic Book Day. Participating stores give a way a free comic book to anyone who visits.

The closest participating store is Chuck's Comics at 530 Eastern Blvd. in Essex.

Streets in Baltimore will be filled with crazy, eclectic scenes when they are taken over by the Visionary Arts Museum's annual Kinetic Sculpture Race.

And let's not forget that Saturday is Cinco de Mayo. You have your pick of gatherings and events in the region.

I'll be at Sumo de Mayo at the Flying Dog Brewery.

Because there's no way one human can get to all of the events being offered Saturday, Sunday offers you a second chance on a couple of events: The Towsontown Festival continues and DCT offers "All Shook Up" at 3 p.m.

Professional entertainment includes Chicago at Pier Six Pavilion and a celebration of Michael jackson music by Cirque du Soleil at the 1st Mariner Arena.

Have fun and be safe this weekend.
