Blog: Romeo, Romeo!

Meet Romeo, a young, affectionate, and playful terrier/lab mix who gets along with everyone and is overdue to find a family who will love him.

Hi Guys! My name is Romeo and I’m one sweet, lovable dog. My rescue friends describe me as a super-kisser because I love to give kisses to anyone and everyone I meet, even total strangers. I’m not picky.  I’m a very social pup, great with kids and other dogs, and am even OK with cats. Basically, like my namesake, I’m just a star-crossed pup with a great disposition who deserves my own family to love.

Life has not been very fair to me thus far... I was rescued as a young puppy from a Maryland shelter almost six months ago, but then my rescuers fell on hard times and I got lost in the shuffle. I was placed in boarding and have been kenneled for the past five months, which is no life for a vibrant puppy like me, or any dog.  Luckily, some good-hearted rescue folks who care about my welfare jumped in to help and connected me with Mutts Matter Rescue. I’m here today to tell you my story and hopefully find my place in this world.

Mutts Matter thinks I may be some type of terrier/lab mix. I have a pretty, honey-colored coat and always greet you with a big, welcoming smile. I’m about fifty pounds and not even a year old yet, so I still have my whole life ahead of me.

I’m not just a sweet pup, I know stuff too: I can sit, release my toys when you say “drop it,” and I’ve learned how to walk well on a leash. The one positive from my kenneled upbringing is that I’m an expert at the crate, and I’m mostly potty-trained now too. My friends in the rescue are working on my recall skills and tell me that I’m doing great and learn quickly. I already knew that, but I appreciate the feedback.

Because I’m such a happy and social pup, you can take me anywhere and everywhere. I love to go on car rides and know how to be cool in a car, and what I really want is to go experience the outside world with you. The next best thing to that is a game of tug, and I love, love, love to play fetch. I’m very playful and silly, especially when I try to chase birds, which can obviously fly and I can not. I’ve got plenty of puppy energy and enthusiasm to go around, and I’m ready to share it with my new family.

The good news is that I just got my first reprieve from life in a kennel and spent the last few days in a temporary foster home – it’s awesome, you guys. I really, really don’t want to go back to the kennel. My foster dad is really cool and lets me cuddle up with him after playtime, and I’m starting to get a taste of what family life could be. I’d really like to have a home of my own…Do you have room in your home and heart for a sweet boy like me? I promise you won’t regret it.

Like with all young and energetic pups, the key to me settling into my new home will be a nurturing family that is committed to my development, and to getting me the daily exercise, stimulation, and love that I need to stay balanced.
