Obituary: Kenneth J. Ewing Sr., GM Worker, Race Car Driver

The lifelong Dundalk resident was an accomplished NHRA race car driver.

On August 31, Kenneth James Ewing Sr., beloved husband of Barbara Jean Ewing (nee Clapp); devoted father of Brenda Browne and her husband Rick; Kenneth J. Ewing Jr. and his wife Christina; Gary Blake and his wife Connie; Willo Kelly and her husband Mike; Johnny Wood and his wife Lori; loving brother of Wayne and his wife Martha, Shirley Coxon Allen and her husband Ed, and his dear brother Gary; cherished grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 11.  In addition, he is survived by many close and loving relatives and friends.  Ken was predeceased by father Bernard, mother Charlotte (nee Baker), son Robbie Blake, and daughter Cheri Chapman. 

Born in Baltimore in 1939, the lifelong Dundalk resident and former GM worker was one-third of the legendary Ewing Brothers Racing Team.  With his siblings Wayne and Gary, Ken spent over 40 years traveling up and down the East Coast participating in NHRA racing competitions and car shows, winning many awards and setting national records in the process.  

During their career the brothers racked up several corporate sponsorships including Schmidt’s Beer and Speed Dawg.  In 2008 the Ewing brothers were inducted into the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame.

Cremation was private.  

A memorial service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home on the afternoon of Sept. 8th at 1:00 P.M. The service will be mmediately followed by a Life Celebration at Squire's Italian Restaurant.
