Community Corner

Stop the lies.

End the lies.

In the very short 3 weeks of being open the Main Street Gallery and Gift shop in old Dundalk is already weathering a storm of rumors ranging from the silly to the absurd. Rumors are dangerous, not just for shop owners but for our community organizations, local artist, and the town, they disrupt neighborhoods trying to come together, distract from real issues, and dissuade people from wanting to make a difference.

Most disturbing is the thought that such rumors would originate not from neighboring towns fearing that Dundalk is rising above their unflattering image, but from our own community members and organizations. We, as a community, cannot afford to fall into petty bickering and backstabbing to settle imaginary arguments and jealousy. If we allow our friends and neighbors to perpetuate unfounded rumors and lies we only succeed in harming our own community and prove to the naysayers that we deserve the negative image of Dundalk that is out there.

I know that those who care more about their own agenda than they do about the community will never change their methods, and likely it is only a few bad apples starting things. It is up to us all to be willing to stand up and say "No" to unfounded rumors, to call people out on their lies, to have the guts to ask for proof when things are said. Hold people responsible for what they say, do not let them hide in anonymity, and do not protect their anonymity when they spread lies. Only then can we come together with open honest debate for an undivided Dundalk.

As for the rumors that are out there,  be willing to find out for yourself, visit shops, talk with people, and find out the truth. Support the local artists and performers, support the people who want to make a difference, support the groups that actively clean the waterways, get involved and  bring the truth to light, let us join as a community, united, and strong to become a center of prosperity that draws envy and not scorn.

We can only do this if we work together.
