7-11 Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder and Multiple Armed Robberies

Baltimore County police have charged a suspect in connection with two armed robberies of a 7-11 store on North Point Boulevard as well as attempted murder in connection with armed robbery of a second 7-11.

Baltimore County police have charged a suspect in connection with three armed robberies of two local 7-11 stores earlier this month. Currently, the suspect remains incarcerated in Baltimore City jail on other commercial robbery charges.

On May 4, an armed man robbed the 7-11 store in the 900 block of North Point Blvd. Two days later, on May 6, Baltimore County police responded to an armed robbery call at 4:42 a.m. from the same North Point Boulevard 7-11 store.

During the second armed robbery, the suspect cut the employee on his face. The employee was taken to Bayview Hospital for treatment of non-threatening injuries.

On May 4—the same day as the first armed robbery of the 7-11 on North Point Boulevard—a 7-11 store in the 7200 block of E. Baltimore St. was robbed by an armed man at 3:40 a.m. Baltimore County police allege the same man committed all three armed robberies.

Baltimore County police have charged Dewey Morgan Jr., of the 300 block of S. Highland Ave. in the Highlandtown area of Baltimore, with three counts of armed robbery, and first-degree assault and attempted murder in connection to the second armed robbery of the 7-11 store on North Point Boulevard, according to Det. Cathy Batton, a Baltimore County Police Department spokeswoman.

Baltimore City police arrested Morgan May 7. He is currently incarcerated at the Baltimore City jail on charges of armed robbery, robbery, second-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure for commercial robberies separate from the 7-11 armed robberies.

Shortly after 4 p.m. May 7, a man matching the description of a person of interest in several commercial robberies was observed by a Baltimore City police officer entering the driver's side of a late model Buick in the 3400 block of E. Baltimore St.

According to police reports, the driver ignored efforts by police to pull the vehicle over, traveling at a high rate of speed southbound in the 100-200 block of S. Grundy St. In the 3900 block of Fleet St., the driver jumped from the vehicle while the automobile was still moving and began fleeing on foot.

After providing a different name to officers on the scene, police allege, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Morgan.

Morgan was brought to Johns Hopkins Bayview for injuries to his left hand after his arrest.

According to Baltimore City police reports, Morgan waived his rights and confessed to the theft of the Buick on a videotaped confession. Morgan also verified that he doesn't currently possess a valid state driver's license, according to police.

Batton said Morgan will face the Baltimore County charges after the Baltimore City charges are resolved.

“He won’t be released from Baltimore City jail even if he’s found not guilty," Batton said. “He’ll be detained and brought to the Baltimore County Detention Center.”
