Baltimore County Police Make Arrest in Turner Station Shooting

Raquan Smith, 17, has been charged with multiple counts in connection with the June 11 shooting that injured one person.

Baltimore County police have made an arrest in the shooting that occurred at a Turner Station playground Tuesday night.

Raquan Smith, 17, of the 600 block of S. Avondale Road, was charged with multiple counts, including attempted first-degree murder, according to a police department statement from spokeswoman Lt. Cathy Batton.

At about 10:45 p.m. on June 11, Baltimore County police responded to the 600 block of N. Avondale Road for a report of a shooting, according to the statement.

The shooting was originally reported by police to have happened at Peach Orchard Lane and Beal Drive in Turner Station.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found a 21-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound. The injured man was taken to a local hospital, treated and released, according to Batton.

In their investigation, detectives found that the victim and three friends were at a playground in the area. The suspect came to the playground and allegedly got into a physical fight with one of the victim's friends, police said. The suspect left the area and returned with a gun about 90 minutes later. He fired the gun at the four victims, striking one of them, according to Batton.

Smith has been charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of first-degree assault and the use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, according to the statement.

He is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
