"It's a small little turn, but there's always been accidents on the road there," said Christine Covacevich, 33, who lost power at her home after the crash. "I've been in an accident myself on this road."

The stretch of road near St. Andrew's Cemetery and nearby , further west, is also known for speeding drivers, and Baltimore County police officers often set up in the area to catch the offenders.

"It's kind of dark here at night," said Howard Thomas, 38. "That's about the third time that I've seen that gate go down."

Numerous residents across the street from the accident lost power, but BGE had most homes' power restored by sunrise.
