Dundalk's Old Seagram's Plant Burns, 1 Injured

The vacant buildings have been plagued by fire over the years.

One person was seriously injured Saturday night when a building on the former Seagram's Distillery property at 7100 Sollers Point Road burned.

The fire was reported at about 9:30 p.m. Baltimore County police officials said via Twitter that the blaze escalated to a three-alarm fire and that one person who was in the vacant building when the fire started was taken to the University of Maryland's R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in serious condition.

Saturday night, local residents commented on the fire on Facebook.

Peggy Rosendale, who lives on Sollers Point Road directly across the street from the plant, wrote that hot fire embers were falling on houses and firefighters were watering down roofs and decks in the area.

Many residents commented on the variety of places around town from which the blaze could be seen.

The abandoned buildings, owned by John Vontran, have been plagued by multiple fires over the years.

Vontran is one of two bidders hoping to buy the North Point Government Center campus at the intersection of Merritt Boulevard and Wise Avenue.

In his proposal, Vontran would develop the North Point Government Center property and provide substitute recreation facilities, including a recreation center and athletic fields, at the Seagram's site.

No other information, including the identity of the injured person, is yet available.
