Firefighters entered the basement to put out the fire. Because the unit was divided into six apartments, a firefighter from Sparrows Point Engine 57 became disoriented and called in a Mayday, signifying a trapped firefighter.

The Rapid Intervention Team entered the building and within minutes safely removed the trapped firefighter.

The fire was declared under control at 10:46 a.m., according to the statement.

No occupants or firefighters were injured in the blaze.

Nine occupants were displaced and are receiving Red Cross relocation assistance, according to the statement.
