Four Arrests in Inverness Stabbings; Warrant for Fifth Suspect

A previous conflict led to a violent early-morning attack. The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

Baltimore County police have arrested four local men in connection with an attack and multiple stabbing in the early morning hours of May 29 in the Inverness neighborhood of Dundalk.

Baltimore County police have also issued a warrant for a fifth suspect.

The suspects approached the victim, Gary Shackleford, 22, sitting in his vehicle in the 1900 block of Hazelmere Road around 4 a.m. Sunday, May 29, according to Baltimore County police.

“There had been some type of previous conflict between the suspects and the victim,” police spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough said. “The suspects pulled the victim from the vehicle and began violently beating him. Witnesses saw what was going on and called police.”

During the confrontation at least one of the suspects stabbed the victim in the stomach.

Shackleford, also armed with a knife, then stabbed three of the suspects, two of whom were transported to Shock Trauma, McCullough said, with a third suspect walking into Franklin Square Medical Center.

Shackleford, who also suffered bruises to his face and body, was taken to Bayview Medical Center and was later released.

All were expected to survive their injuries.

Randall Ralph Fortner, 26, of the 8500 block of Kavanaugh Road, Dundalk, was charged with first-degree assault and robbery. He remains committed to Baltimore County Detention Center, according to online records.

Darrin Steven Fortner, 21, of the 2100 block of Jasmine Road, Dundalk, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and robbery. He posted bail and was released from commitment June 1, according to online court records.

Derek Alexander Fortner, 25, of the 1400 block of Hadwick Drive, Essex, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and robbery. He posted bail June 11 and was released from commitment, according to online court records.

Michael Eugene Harlow, 30, of the 2000 block of Jasmine Road, Dundalk, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and robbery. He remains committed to the Baltimore County Detention Center, according to online court records.

In addition, an arrest warrant has been issued for Robert Peters, of Essex, McCullough said.
