Four Car Fires Linked to Previous Arsons in Edgemere

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

Four cars set on fire earlier this month in Edgemere are being linked to  previous arsons in the area, according to Baltimore County police.

Sometime between 9 p.m. Oct. 1 and 7:26 a.m. Oct. 2, four vehicles were set on fire in the area of the 3000 block of Wells Ave., according to police reports. No one was hurt.

"We are investigating them as part of an ongoing investigation of arsons in Edgemere earlier this year," said Detective Cathy Batton, a Baltimore County police spokeswoman.

In July, Baltimore County police investigated a that occurred in Edgemere, including a dwelling fire, dumpster fire and three car fires. No one was injured in those fires.

Batton said the recent car fires were discovered by a resident as smoke was coming from a 2001 Dodge Ram truck in 3000 block of Wells Avenue. The Baltimore County Fire Department was called, Batton said, and two other vehicles parked next to the truck–owned by the same individual–were discovered to have been set on fire as well.

Another vehicle, owned by another Edgemere resident farther down the street, was also discovered to have been set on fire, police said.

"All four vehicles were left unlocked by the owners," Batton said. "The fires were started inside the vehicles."

The other vehicles set on fire included a 2001 Subaru Forester, a 1999 Nissan Sentra and 2001 Lexus.

Baltimore County police are seeking assistance from the community in identifying the arsonist, Batton said.

Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call Baltimore County Police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587).
