Police Community Relations Council Plans July Open House

Members received a report on recent crime and learned a Baltimore County Police Community Relations Council website is coming soon. The June meeting was the last until September.

The North Point Police Community Relations Council met Monday evening for the last time until reconvening for its regular second-Monday meetings in September, receiving a report on recent crime and planning for a July open house.

Baltimore County police Lt. Sam Houston of the North Point station, pinch-hitting for Capt. Woodland M. “Butch” Wilson III, provided council members with an update on local crime activity for the past month. Houston highlighted the two recent major events, a self-inflicted gunshot wound on North Point Road and a multiple stabbing in the Inverness neighborhood, noting that in both cases all those involved knew each other.

Four arrests were made in the Inverness stabbings and a warrant has been issued for a fifth suspect.

Houston also mentioned that burglary and property thefts continue to be a problem.

“A lot of the theft problem falls to stealing non-secured stuff in people’s unlocked sheds and garages,” Houston said. “Take that message back to your neighbors.”

Community Relations Council Director James O’Toole, re-elected last month to a two-year term, passed out fliers to members about the North Point Police Community Relations Council Open House on July 30.

The outdoor Saturday event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind the Precinct 12/North Point Government Center, will include live helicopter demonstrations by the police aviation unit and food and drinks for purchase.

The open house is sponsored by the Police Community Relations Council as an opportunity for the community to meet with local police officers as well as public officials.

“It’s also an opportunity for police officers to meet the community,” O’Toole said.

Other North Point Police Community Relations Council business included approving a $250 contribution to the Heritage Association in support of the annual Dundalk Parade, Fair and Fourth of July celebration.

Members also learned that a Baltimore County Police Community Relations Council website, encompassing all nine of the various precinct citizen councils, remains in development. The site will eventually be listed at  www.baltimorecountypcrc.org, and include links to each of the individual precinct councils for news, information and events.
