On April 15, about 9:40 p.m., officers responded to the 7800 block of Fairgreen Road after receiving a call reporting a shooting. Sheppard, who lives nearby, had driven to the area to visit a friend, according to police. Before he could get out of his vehicle, he was confronted by Digennaro, who shot Sheppard multiple times with a handgun, police allege.

After the shooting, Digennaro went back into his house and refused to surrender to police, police said. The Hostage Negotiation Team and the Tactical Unit were called to the scene. After several hours, the Tactical Unit entered the home and took Digennaro into custody, police said.
