Police Issue Warning About 'Deception Burglaries' in Dundalk

Elderly victims were targeted in two recent Dundalk robberies.

Following two recent "deception burglaries" in the Greater Dundalk area, the Baltimore County Police Department has issued a warning to residents to be on the alert for such deceptive practices.

The first incident happened at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 4, in the 1500 block of Delvale Avenue, according to a police department statement.

The suspects offered to clean the gutters for the homeowner and stole items inside the house while "checking for leaks," according to the statement.

The second incident took place at 1 p.m. Jan. 9, in the 7400 block of Belmont Avenue.

The suspects claimed to be Baltimore County employees and told the resident they needed to discuss an issue with the neighbor's fence. The "workers," who carried walkie talkies, worked in tandem, with one distracting the victim while the other stole items from inside the house.

Elderly victims were targeted in each instance, officials said.

The first suspect is described as a white male, 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-7, 180 pounds with dark hair, according to the statement.

The second suspect is a white male, 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-7, 200 pounds with dark hair.

Both men were wearing tan or khaki pants.

Police officials remind residents to be on the alert for anyone in their neighborhood offering to make home repairs or asking to gain entry into the home. residents should ask for identification, and to let the person know you will call the employer or company for verification before allowing them access to the home.

Residents should not intervene and instead are encouraged to call 911 immediately about any suspicious activity.
