Police Issue Warning About 'Deception Burglaries' in Dundalk

Elderly victims were targeted in two recent Dundalk robberies.

Following two recent "deception burglaries" in the Greater Dundalk area, the Baltimore County Police Department has issued a warning to residents to be on the alert for such deceptive practices.

The first incident happened at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 4, in the 1500 block of Delvale Avenue, according to a police department statement.

The suspects offered to clean the gutters for the homeowner and stole items inside the house while "checking for leaks," according to the statement.

The second incident took place at 1 p.m. Jan. 9, in the 7400 block of Belmont Avenue.

The suspects claimed to be Baltimore County employees and told the resident they needed to discuss an issue with the neighbor's fence. The "workers," who carried walkie talkies, worked in tandem, with one distracting the victim while the other stole items from inside the house.

Elderly victims were targeted in each instance, officials said.

The first suspect is described as a white male, 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-7, 180 pounds with dark hair, according to the statement.

The second suspect is a white male, 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-7, 200 pounds with dark hair.

Both men were wearing tan or khaki pants.

Police officials remind residents to be on the alert for anyone in their neighborhood offering to make home repairs or asking to gain entry into the home. residents should ask for identification, and to let the person know you will call the employer or company for verification before allowing them access to the home.

Residents should not intervene and instead are encouraged to call 911 immediately about any suspicious activity.

They're also doing 'phone scamming' calling them to wire money stating a family member is in jail downtown and needs the money immediately or has some type of other emergency. My mom called me hysterical...what slime. She's half blind, deaf and 88 year old invalid. Took hours to calm her down. She was extremely stressed because she didn't have a way to get money downtown (Thank God!) She might have died.

Ironic, the phone company and satellite company scam me all the time and no one does anything about that. I do agree these fiends need to be rounded up and dealt with. Let them make deals with other prisoners while serving time. Whether they get caught or not we'll all still pay for their upkeep.

In retrospect, they should have built the LNG Plant. We would have had thousands of people working.
Wayne Monroe June 18, 2013 at 01:39 pm
Actually, if the country hadn't become a natural gas exporter rather than an importer the LNG plantRead More probably would have proceeded. Opponents raised such a fuss about the dredging required but if the state wants to dredge, step aside. They'll do what they want.

TheyRead More better order some more cranes from Shanghai Zenhui in China they take a while to build and transport here and the worldwide demand for them is huge. Those new container ships can transport 15,000 containers whereas the current ones max out at 5,000.

Mr. Samm, this situation is nothing like North Korea. WE, the PEOPLE, elected the councilman toRead More represent us, that is correct; however, I DID NOT elect Dundalk United to REPRESENT DUNDALK!
