Toddler Gets Stitches, Dog in Custody after Attack Sunday

A child bitten by a dog in Eastwood on Sunday is in stable condition, and the dog that allegedly bit her is with animal control officials, according to media reports. 

The 20-month-old girl received stitches around her eye at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center, according to The Washington Post.

On Sunday afternoon, she was reportedly visiting friends of the family on the 7200 block of Conley Street when the dog bit her.

It was not immediately clear what happened. Police told The Baltimore Sun that the incident happened when family members put the girl on the couch; they told WJZ it happened as she was getting off the couch; and they told WBAL that the bite occurred as she was putting on her coat.

The dog—a one-year-old beagle-pit bull mix named “Raven”—is with animal control, according to WBAL. 

It is up to the health department, animal control and police what happens to the dog and the man who owns her, said The Baltimore Sun.

Raven's owner told WBAL that he now plans to give up the dog, stating: "It's not worth it" to keep a dog that may attack a child.
