Two Charged With Metal Theft at Seagrams

A witness called 911 after watching men load metal into a pick-up truck.

Two men have been charged with stealing metal from the shuttered Seagrams plant on Sollers Point Road. A witness saw the two allegedly loading metal from the fenced-in Seagrams property into the back of a pick-up truck at about 9:30 p.m., on July 9, according to a Baltimore County police report.

The witness called 911 and when police arrived, they arrested Stephen M. Swedo, 31, of the 1700 block of Dundalk Ave., Dundalk, and Robert B. Cowley, 64, of the 3800 block of Lyndale Road, Baltimore. Various metals, valued at $110, were recovered.

Swedo and Cowley were charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, trespassing and theft of less than $1,000. Swedo remains at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Cowley was released from the detention center on Aug. 3 after bail was posted. The trial date for both men is Aug. 26.

Snyder Avenue, 2500 block, between noon and 1:30 p.m,. Aug. 1. Three used ceiling fans were removed from a fenced yard. They were later sold at Owl Metals.

Patapsco Avenue, 200 block, between July 23 and noon, July 28. Copper piping from an air conditioning unit, water heater and plumbing lines were removed from a vacant home.
