After working for more than a year without a contract, union employees who work in Baltimore County’s Department of Public Works and Property Management have reached an agreement with county officials.

The new contract, which lasts through fiscal year 2016, provides for a 3 percent bonus in November 2014, a 3 percent cost of living increase on July 1, 2015, and guarantees they will not be furloughed or laid off during the length of the agreement, according to a news release.

"I am very pleased every time we reach an agreement with one of our labor organizations," County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said in the release.  "But I am particularly pleased that we reached a new agreement with [American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees].  Many of the men and women in AFSCME are those who pave our streets, remove our snow, and repair our water and sewer systems."

There are 743 county employees represented by AFSCME and the contract was approved 127-58.
