The Baltimore County Council voted unanimously to have councilwoman Cathy Bevins chair the council for 2014.

Bevins, a Democrat from District 5, is the third woman to ever chair the Baltimore County Council, and the second woman this term hold the post. She joins current councilwoman Vicki Almond and former councilwoman Barbara Bachur as the only female chairs of the council.

"I am humbled by the trust and confidence that my fellow Council members have expressed by selecting me to serve as their chair," Bevins said in a press release. "I will do my best to provide meaningful representation and continue the tradition of fiscally responsible oversight in my role as Council Chair."

Councilman John Olszewski Sr. nominated Bevins to the position during the council's meeting on Monday. The council elects the chair during the first meeting of the calendar year.
