Blue Angels Will Help Celebrate Battle of North Point Bicentennial
After federal sequestration budget cuts grounded the performance planes this year, the demonstration flight squadron will return to the skies in 2014.
When Greater Dundalk celebrates the bicentennial of the Battle of North Point next September, the Navy's Blue Angels will be in the skies to help mark the occasion.
The Navy announced Monday that its Flight Demonstration Squadron, better known as the Blue Angels, will return to its full performance schedule for the 2014 air show season.
The crowd favorites will perform in Maryland on two different occasions. The squad will return to Annapolis on May 21 and 23 for the U.S. Naval Academy's commissioning week and graduation ceremonies and again on Sept. 13-14 for the bicentennial celebrations of the War of 1812's battles of North Point and Baltimore.
"Community outreach is key to connecting Americans to the military," Blue Angels Commanding Officer and Light Leader Cmdr. Thomas Frosch said in a press release from the organization. "Our performances provide a unique opportunity to inspire millions to connect with and support our service members, and we are looking forward to an exciting 2014 season."
Federal sequestratian budget cuts in 2013 canceled 2,800 Navy events, including Blue Angel performances, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Next year, the demonstration squad will perform in 65 shows at 34 locations throughout the country, according to the group's website.
