Speed Cameras Not Yet Operating as Planned

Four temporary cameras scheduled to go active today are not operating yet, including the Pikesville locations of Winand Elementary and Bais Yaakov Middle schools.

Four portable speed cameras, including two in Pikesville, are not yet active.

Because of a technical problem, the portable cameras will not operate today as planned, according to a news release from Baltimore County.

"Police will notify the public as soon as the vendor has remedied the problem and installed the cameras," the release states.

The release lists the four camera locations:

Once the speed cameras are installed and operating, there's a 30-day grace period when motorists who exceed the speed limit by at least 12 mph will receive warnings instead of citations, it states.

Are Bais Yaakov and Winands Elementary good places for cameras? Are you relieved that they are there, or upset that there will be more cameras watching your speed? Tell us in the comments box.
