Hoping to Go Smoke-Free in 2014? Baltimore County Wants to Help

The Baltimore County Department of Health is offering the American Lung Association's "Freedom from Smoking" seven-class program beginning Jan. 7.

If you're working on your New Year's resolutions and one of your goals is to quit smoking in 2014, Baltimore County wants to help you achieve that goal.

The county's Department of Health is offering the American Lung Association's "Freedom from Smoking" class, beginning Jan. 7.

The free, seven-week course uses a positive behavior change approach while helping participants develop their own plan on how to quit, according to a statement from health department officials.

In 60-minute classes, participants will learn how to reduce stress, cravings and withdrawal symptoms, and how to control weight while resisting the urge to smoke, according to the statement.

The class will be held for seven Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. beginning Jan. 7, at the Baltimore County Department of Health, Drumcastle Government Center, 6401 York Road, in the first floor conference room.

The program is free but registration is required. To register, call the health department, 410-887-3828.
