Motorists Can Donate Toys at Key Bridge Toll Facility

In a increasingly rushed world, there often doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything on the "To Do" list done.

In recognition of that, Maryland Transportation Authority officials are making it easy for you to donate to their annual Toys for Tots drive.

You can multi-task on your way to work by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy or game at toll facilities operated by the transportation authority.

Local motorists can drop off donations at the Francis Scott Key Bridge toll booths from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 5, 6 and 7, according to a statement from MDTA.

Motorists may also donate toys at the Bay Bridge, the Baltimore Harbor and Fort Mchenry tunnels, the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge, the Intercounty Connector and the Dundalk Marine Terminal.

"Once again, we are excited about this opportunity for all of the citizens we serve to donate toys for those less fortunate," authority Executive Secretary Harold M. Bartlett said in the statement. "Each year, the men and women of the MDTA look forward to assisting the U.S. Marine Corps in this wonderful campaign."

Motorists (including E-Z Pass customers) who wish to make a donation must use the far-right toll lane and follow directions from Santa Claus, uniformed MDTA police officers or other staff members on duty, according to the statement.

MDTA police officials remind drivers to keep safety in mind as they approach the toy drop-off lane. Toys will be accepted only at designated sites during designated sites; toll collectors are unable to accept toys in non-designated toll lanes.

Since the MDTA started participating in the campaign in 1990, more than 127,000 toys have been collected from customers of the toll facilities and the Port of Baltimore, according to the statement.
