Baltimore County Wants to Paint the Town Blue for Education

Baltimore County Public Schools is kicking off its "We Are Team BCPS" campaign to encourage more parent, community and business engagement with public schools.

The purple clothing has been put away until August and it's not quite time to pull out the orange apparel.

If you're missing a team to cheer for during this winter hiatus between football and baseball seasons, Baltimore County Public Schools officials have an alternative for you.

The school system is kicking off its "We Are Team BCPS" campaign and wants to turn Baltimore County blue in support of public education, according to a statement from county officials.

To kick of the awareness campaign, the dome of the historic County Courthouse in Towson will be bathed in blue light through Wednesday night.

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz encourages all county residents and school system and government employees to wear blue on Wednesday to identify themselves as part of the team, according to the statement.

"The quality and progress of our schools affects everyone who lives or does business in the county," Kamenetz said in the statement.

Schools Superintendent S. Dallas Dance said the county government has been a "stellar supporter" of the campaign, additional elements of which will be introduced as the school year progresses.

"We are most excited that the focus of the campaign is on expanding and strengthening parent, community and business engagement in our schools.
