Dundalk Students Headed to County Chess Tournament

Four local schools will have teams in the second annual chess championships.

Students from Sandy Plains Elementary, Dundalk and Sparrows Point Middle and Dundalk High schools are headed to the Baltimore County Public Schools system's second annual chess championships on Saturday.

As of Friday, 133 students from 29 schools had registered to participate in the tournament to crown champions at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Schools can enter teams of one to five players. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams and top eight individuals in each division.

Spectators will not be allowed in the competition room, but are welcome to attend the afternoon awards ceremony.

Date: Saturday, April 14

Time:  Registration begins at 8 a.m.; announcements at 9 a.m.; matches begin at 9:15 a.m.  Awards will be presented between 3:30 and 5 p.m.
