Patapsco High Art Students Win Honors in Contests

Dundalk student artists are recognized for art and photography with awards and a scholarship.

Several Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts students recently won awards at the Youth Art and Photography Exhibition held March 15 by the Woman's Club of Dundalk.

With more than 70 entries, seven students won 11 awards:

High School Art: Second Place, Dresden Dosch; Third Place, Dana Jones; Sixth Place, Leslie Arias; Honorable Mention, Tori Craig.

High School Photography: First Place, Taylor Sidor; Third Place, Whitney McClain; Fourth Place, Jonathan Yeager; Honorable Mention, Taylor Sidor.

In addition, Savannah Brockmeyer recently won a Silver Medal for Photography at the national level in the Scholastic Arts and Awards competition.

Two students earned honors at the Young Artist Showcase, sponsored by the Timonium Optimist Club and the Towson Arts Collective. 

Seniors Alaina Savarese won a first-place award in photography and Safiya Brown placed third in painting at the exhibition. In addition, Savarese’s photograph was selected for the People’s Choice award by ballot from all visitors to the exhibition.

Savarese also had two pieces selected for the 2013 Delaware College of Art and Design High School Art Exhibition. This show consisted of work from 26 schools from six states. She will receive a $2,000 scholarship for this honor.
