Twenty-five art students were recently selected for regional honors in the 2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition.
“The Scholastic awards program competition is all about extraordinary artistic talent, and there is no better place to see this talent then here in Dundalk at Patapsco,” said Ryan Imbriale, principal of Patapsco High School.
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers sponsored the competition, which aims to identify teenagers with exceptional artistic and literary talent by recognizing them nationally.
Since 1923, over 13 million students have participated in the Scholastic Awards; 9 million of these artists and writers have been recognized and more than $25 million has been given in awards and scholarships, according to a press release.
Alumni of these awards include Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Cy Twombly, Robert Indiana, Kay WalkingStick, Philip Pearlstein, and John Baldessari, according to a press release.
The Gold Key is the highest level of achievement on the regional level and places students in the top 10% of their region. This work will go on to be reviewed at the national level in mid-February by a panel of artists, writers, and creative professionals.
