6 Orioles Are Finalists for Rawlings Gold Glove Awards

Chris Davis, J.J. Hardy, Adam Jones, Manny Machado, Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters are nominated for the awards that recognize superb defensive play.

While the Baltimore Orioles didn't make the playoffs this year, the team did enjoy a record-breaking defensive season.

The Birds set a new record with 119 errorless games (in a 162-game season), breaking the standard of 113 set by the 2008 Houston Astros.

The Orioles also broke the record for fewest number of errors committed in a season, having only 54 fielding miscues, shattering the previous record of 65 set by the Seattle Mariners in 2003.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter expected that sterling defense to be rewarded and judging by the list of Rawlings Gold Glove finalists, he won't be disappointed.

Six Orioles have been named finalists for the award that recognize baseball's best fielders.

First baseman Chris Davis, shortstop J.J. Hardy, center fielder Adam Jones, third baseman Manny Machado, right fielder Nick Markakis and catcher Matt Wieters are all in the running for the American League awards, according to mlb.com.

The Orioles lead the American League with the six nominations, according to sbnation.com.

Davis is nominated in his first full season as the team's first baseman, and Machado is nominated in his first full season in the major leagues.

Jones, Hardy, Markakis and Wieters are previous Gold Glove Award winners.
