Dundalk Center Respite for Foriegn Sailors

The Stella Maris International Seafarers Center in the historic Dundalk Shopping Center offers a chance for foriegn saliors to connect with family members via the Internet.

The Stella Maris International Seafarers’ Center in Dundalk provides international sailors coming into the Port of Baltimore not only a place to relax but also an opportunity to connect with family members via the Internet.

Run by the Archdiocese of Baltimore, the Seafarers' Center, at 6 Dunmanway, is expanding its services to include WiFi computer access, new televisions, telephones and computers for sailors to use. The center also offers sacramental and welcoming services to seafarers passing through the port, according to a recent press release from the Archdiocese.

Archbishop Edwin O’Brien, apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, will dedicate the newly renovated and expanded Stella Maris International Seafarers’ Center at 11 a.m., Saturday.

Archbishop O’Brien will be joined by Peter Davio, state deputy of the Maryland State Council Knights of Columbus and Rev. Dennis P. Diehl, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fulton.

Msgr. John L. FitzGerald serves as executive director and chaplain of the Archdiocese’s Apostleship of the Sea ministry, which supports and administers the Center.  Apostleship of the Sea is an international Catholic ministry that recruits Catholic lay men and women to volunteer as ship visitors and at the center, according to the Archdiocese's press release.
