Odd Fellows to Hold Memorial Day Ceremony

Program will begin at 11 a.m. at Fort Howard Veterans Park on North Point Road.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows, North Point Lodge No. 4 will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at Fort Howard Veterans Park on North Point Road (on the former Fort Howard School site).

The focal point of the park is a memorial monument that contains the names of 150 Edgemere and Fort Howard residents who served in the military during World War II.

The names of six men are marked with small stars, designating that they died in combat.

The monument was dedicated in 1945, according to the lodge's website, after money to buy it was collected in a door-to-door campaign throughout the Edgemere and Fort Howard communities.

The Odd Fellows have been maintaining the monument ever since, and were instrumental in preserving the open space as Fort Howard Veterans Park when Fort Howard School was torn down.

After the ceremony, lodge members will serve lunch at the North Point Odd Fellows Lodge, 9401 North Point Road.
