Stansbury Park Shines Brightly Once Again

Community volunteers celebrate Earth Week by cleaning the local park and pond.

The waders, gloves and tools of local volunteers are getting a workout this spring.

Members of Clean Bread and Cheese Creek have been out in force almost every weekend lately, it seems, and this past weekend was no different.

Lending a hand to another effort, creek volunteers helped out at an Earth Week cleanup project at Stansbury Park on Saturday.

About a dozen Clean Bread and Cheese Creek members joined the effort that also included other community residents.

Workers wearing waders walked the inside perimeter of the pond while other volunteers shadowed them on the shoreline to ensure no trash was missed, according to group founder John Long.

Volunteers also cleaned walking paths, tot lot areas and the outfall pipes from Lynch Cove Run, Long said in an email to Patch.

After fours hours, workers had collected 27 bags of trash, two tires, one shopping cart, one pallet and a big steel pole.

"Our volunteers did a fantastic job at today's cleanup (they always do) and Stansbury Park and Pond look beautiful once more," Long wrote in the email. "Everybody deserves a safe and trash-free place to enjoy nature and I am so glad we were able to help with this!"
