Video: Bread & Cheese Flooding Strands Cars, Detours Emergency Vehicles

John Long, founder and director of Clean Bread and Cheese Creek, documents the regular flooding of Bread and Cheese Creek across North Point Road and consequences for drivers and the environment.

The mission statement: "Clean Bread and Cheese Creek is an organization whose mission is to restore the natural beauty and improve the environmental quality of the historic Bread And Cheese Creek through education, and by mobilizing volunteers for monitoring, restoration and advocacy."

The next volunteer clean up event is scheduled for Sept. 24, starting on the east side of the ARC moving eastward over North Point Road and behind the North Point Shopping Center. According to the organization's count, there are currently 28 shopping carts buried in the creek in this area.

The organization's clean ups are part of an ongoing effort to clean the entire stream by 2014 in preparation for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Celebration, according to their website. Learn more about Bread and Cheese Creek's history here and the role it played in the War of 1812.
