Mild Weather, Free Lung Cancer Event, 'Franny' Needs a Home

Information to get your week in Dundalk started.

1. The Weather: The week ahead looks to be fairly mild, according to the National Weather Service. Monday will be sunny, with a high in the mid-60s. Tuesday will see sunny conditions with a high of about 50. Wednesday will be a bit cooler, with a daytime high in the upper 40s, while Thursday and Friday will return to the 50s during the day. Overnight lows will range from the lower 30s to the lower 40s.

2. From history.com's This Day in History: "Shiite Muslim kidnappers in Lebanon free Anglican Church envoy Terry Waite after more than four years of captivity. Waite, looking thinner and his hair grayer, was freed along with American educator Thomas M. Sutherland after intense negotiations by the United Nations.

"Waite, special envoy of the archbishop of Canterbury, had secured the release of missionaries detained in Iran after the Islamic revolution. He also extracted British hostages from Libya and even succeeded in releasing American hostages from Lebanon in 1986."

3. Join a free discussion about lung cancer risk, screening and prevention at 6 p.m. Monday at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Clarification: This lung cancer awareness event is free; CT scans that would screen for the disease are not free. An earlier headline on this article may have been misleading.

4. Partake in Santé, a "culinary odyssey," at 6 p.m. Thursday at M&T Bank Stadium. Chef Ben Simpkins of Middle River's Richardson Farms will attempt to set a record for the world's longest cheesecake (he's shooting for a 50-yard-long dessert, pumpkin-flavored in honor of the season).

5. Franny is available for adoption at the Baltimore County Animal Shelter in baldwin.
