DCT Concludes Its Run of '9 to 5: The Musical' This Weekend

The musical based on the popular 1980s film kicks off Dundalk Community Theatre's 40th season.

Dundalk Community Theatre, in residence at the Dundalk campus of The Community College of Baltimore County, presents its own version of 9 to 5: The Musical for three final performances this weekend.

The musical, based on the 1980s movie, celebrates the working woman—three women, all secretaries, in this case—who take revenge on their letch of a boss after they can no longer tolerate his antics and treatment of them.

The boss, Franklin Hart, "embodies all the qualities a working woman would prefer to avoid—[he's] a bigot, a hypocrite, a letch, a sexist and the list goes on," according to a statement from theater officials.

The film of the 1980s starred Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman. The musical adaptation opened on Broadway in 2009, where it received four Tony Award nominations, 15 Drama Desk Awards and a Grammy nomination for original Broadway cast recording.

The Broadway version also featured Andy Karl, who grew up in Baltimore and has been featured in many Broadway shows over the past decade, according to the statement.

DCT's cast includes Nancy Asendorf (Violet), Carli Smith (Doralee), Brenda Tackett (Judy), Allie Dreskin (Roz), John O’Brien (Franklin Hart), Henry Reisinger, Jr. (Dwayne), Russell Gartner (Joe), Dave Guy (Tinsworthy), John Machovech (Dick), Deborah Desmone (Missy) and Gino Cardoni (Josh).

The ensemble includes Laura May, Kelsey Luchey, Lacy Schmidt, Amanda Dickson, Libby Burgess, Zoe Feldman, Erica Garfield, Amy Sacks, Alice Scanlon, Albert Boeren, Michael Maistros, Timoth Copney, Tyrell Stanley, Seth Saunders and Jim Morgan.

Tickets cost $23 for adults, $20 for senior adults and $15 for students, DCT actors and children 12 and younger.

Season tickets are still available for this celebratory 40th season, which includes productions of Driving Miss Daisy and La Cage aux Folles.

Show times for 9 to 5 are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the John E. Ravekes Theater on the Dundalk campus of The Community College of Baltimore County.
