Avara's Academy of Hair Design was founded by Simon Avara over 50 years ago on Pratt Street. The Dundalk location was opened in 1970 when Avara purchased the Maryland Barber School and took on its current name in 1997. The family-owned business prepares students to take the Maryland State Barber Examination. Avara's offers professional clinical and theory training barbering and styling. Students provide the following services: shave, color, cut, style, wash, facials and blow dry. The salon uses Paul Mitchell, Matrix, Reveille and Aspen Sage products.
