County Employee Convicted of Theft After Faking Disability

Joppa man could get 15 years in jail and agrees to repay Baltimore County more than $49,000.

A Joppa man, who was caught on video trimming a tree after claiming he was too injured to continue working as a laborer for the county, pleaded entered an Alford plea Tuesday to felony theft charges. James Robinson faces 15 years in jail when he is sentenced on Aug. 9 in Baltimore County Circuit Court. As part of his plea agreement, Robinson agreed to repay more than $49,000 in pension, disability and medical payments he received between 2010 and 2011. In Alford plea, a defendant does not admit committing the act but acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence to obtain a conviction should the case go to trial. Owings Mills Man faces 46-Count Mortgage Fraud Indictment

Prosecutor says additional charges are expected.

A 45-year-old Owings Mills man find himself charged with felony theft and other crimes in a 46-count indictment and a county prosecutor said more charges are likely. Rodney Getlan was charged Thursday in Baltimore County Circuit Court with felony theft, mortgage fraud, operating as a credit service without a license and other related charges. He's being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center in lieu of $500,000 bail. Getlan is accused of stealing mortgage payments from nine customers of a loan modification business he ran between January 2009 and January 2012, according to court records. Thanks to Rodney’s greedy ways, many people had to declare bk and it will take them years, if ever to recover from this financial nightmare. Luckily, he’s been locked up and if I’m not mistaken, it’s for good. His children and his parents must be so ashamed. I too knew Rodney years ago, and yes he was a bully then.
