Week in Review: Remembering Sept. 11, Celebrating the O's

Five Guys is thinking about adding a burger joint in Dundalk; Paralympian Jessica Long came home from London with eight medals.

The week of Sept. 10 was an eventful one in Dundalk and the region, with more school gun threats; crime that included arsons and assaults; residents are celebrating the Baltimore Orioles, who will have a winning season for the first time since 1997; a community gathered to remember the events of Sept. 11, 2011; and a community celebrates a well-decorated Paralympian, Middle River swimmer Jessica Long, who returned from the London Paralympics with eight medals, including five golds. Dundalk Gathers to Remember, Reflect on Sept. 11

A crowd of several hundred people gathered in Dundalk's Heritage Park for the community's Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony.

Eleven years have softened some of the edges of the raw images of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on American soil. But remembering that day, and the lives lost on what is perhaps one of the darkest days in American history, still causes people to brush away tears and choke up while talking about their memories. Dundalk's annual Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony was held Tuesday night at Heritage Park.

Dundalk community members marked the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks by gathering in prayer, music and fellowship at Heritage Park Tuesday night. A crowd of several hundred people gathered to honor those lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and to express their thanks to first responders and others who helped that day. Musical performances by Lori Rabuck, Malvilyn and Calvin Statham and the Calvary Baptist Church choir, a prayer and sermon from the Rev. Cameron Giovanelli and a keynote address by former CCBC Dundalk Campus Administrator and Dean Barney Wilson served to bring the community together in remembrance. Did you take photos of the event? The Dundalk community gathered at Heritage Park Tuesday to reflect on and remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The Dundalk Heritage Parade Committee once again sponsored a ceremony to remember and honor the heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa. A piece of twisted and rusted steel I-beam, once part of New York's World Trade Center, held a place of honor at Tuesday's ceremony at Heritage Park. Almost as if on cue, the setting sun seemed to spotlight the I-beam display just before the ceremony began. Did you take pictures at the remembrance ceremony?
