Dundalk Crime: Attempted Murder, Burglaries, Assaults

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

May 18: Second-degree burglary, 7800 block of Eastern Boulevard At 2:25 a.m., officers responded to Dunkin Donuts for a burglar alarm. The suspect pried open a window and attempted to steal a cash register drawer. The suspect fled without taking anything. The suspect is a white male, 18 to 25 years old, and 5-foot-10. May 18: Second-degree burglary, 200 block of North Point Boulevard Between 1:50 and 2:30 a.m., an unknown suspect cut a hole in a fence around K-Mart. The suspect was unable to open the door to the store. May 16: Building fire, 2600 block of Yorkway At 12:47 p.m., police and fire units responded to a fire at a new home under construction. The fire is not considered suspicious. May 14: First-degree assault, 8000 block of …

Patapsco Student's Art to Hang in Capitol

Amber Triplett's photo-manipulation won the Second Congressional District's annual student art contest.

There are art galleries and then there are art galleries. Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts junior Amber Triplett has just landed a piece of wall space in one of the grandest art galleries in the land—the U.S. Capitol. Triplett's photo-manipulation titled "Self Portrait" was named the first-place winner in U.S. Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger's annual Second Congressional District student art contest. Her work of art bested 35 other entries submitted by high school students from across the district to win the right to hang in the Capitol for the next year. Yorkway House Razed; Fire Still Under Investigation

A fire, accompanied by "loud noises," on Thursday heavily damaged a house under construction in Dundalk.

A house under construction in the 2600 block of Yorkway has been torn down after being heavily damaged by fire on Thursday. Firefighters received a call at 12:46 p.m. May 16 reporting smoke showing in the structure, according to police officials. Baltimore County fire personnel on the scene and witnesses in the area reported hearing a series of "loud noises" coming from the structure. After searching the building to make sure no one was inside, fire crews were evacuated out of concern for their safety, a department spokeswoman said Thursday. Onsite engineers, worried about the "integrity and stability" of the building after the blaze, asked fire personnel to leave the building, according to spokeswoman Louise Rogers-Feher. "They were …

Flea Mart to Benefit Dundalk Relay for Life

The Heart and Sole team will hold the fundraiser this Sunday for the American Cancer Society.

Do you like hunting for treasures by looking through someone else's castoffs? And do you need a special reason to browse for a special find in the land of flea markets? A Dundalk fundraising team is making it easy to accomplish both of those missions this Sunday. Heart and Sole, a Dundalk Relay for Life team, will hold a flea market beginning at 8 a.m. at Walter Jay's Collision Center, 3826 North Point Blvd., on May 19. Relay for Life is an overnight fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. This year's event begins at 6 p.m. June 1 on the Dundalk campus of The Community College of Baltimore County and ends early the next morning. Dundalk Chamber to Host Wounded Warrior Speaker

The Dundalk Chamber of Commerce will meet Thursday at the Poplar Inn.

The Dundalk Chamber of Commerce will host a representative from the U.S. Marine Corps' Wounded Warrior Regiment at its monthly luncheon this Thursday. Major Brian Bilski will be the featured speaker at the business gathering designed to remember "those who have given so much," according to an event flier. The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. May 16, at the Poplar Inn, 7700 Wise Ave. A soup and sandwich buffet will be offered. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers; advance payment is appreciated. Attendees are encouraged to bring three business cards for three separate prize drawings. Dundalk Wendy's Heavily Damaged in Weekend Fire

The Merritt Boulevard restaurant sustained about $180,000 in damage.

The Wendy's restaurant on Merritt Boulevard in Dundalk was heavily damaged by a fire early Sunday morning. Crews were dispatched to the eatery in the 1300 block of Merritt Boulevard at 5:41 a.m. for the report of smoke showing from the building, according to Cpl. Cathy Batton, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore County Police Department. Upon arrival, crews discovered that a fire had started in the kitchen of the restaurant, which was not occupied at the time. The fire was brought under control at 6:13 a.m., Batton said. Firefighters have determined that the fire, which caused about $180,000 in damage, was accidental, according to Batton. Eighteen pieces of equipment responded to fight the blaze.
