Signs of spring are everywhere, from flower beds full of daffodils to this week's summer-like temperatures. The Orioles—of the baseball variety—are back in town and farmers are plowing their fields. The trees are still mostly bare, but the greening of spring won't be long now. In today's Photo of the Day, Dundalk photographer Jimmy Rode gives us a look at a brown thrasher, perched in a still-winterized tree. View previous Photos of the Day here. The North Point Peninsula Council hopes to file an appeal to a decision allowing Catholic Charities of Baltimore to proceed with an unwanted homeless housing program in Edgemere.
Dundalk Patch received the following letter from North Point Peninsula Council President Harry Wujek Jr.: Dear Friends, Neighbors and School Parents: This letter is an update on the Catholic Charities Hosanna House proposal next to St. Luke’s Catholic Church. Permission has been granted by a judge in Baltimore County to allow the proposed housing for age 50+ homeless/disabled women to proceed. However, leaders of the church, school and community have decided to appeal this decision based on the unified argument that the location near a school, senior housing and in a neighborhood that will be adversely affected is not appropriate. The newly formed Edgemere Green Society will hold its first cleanup Sunday and there's still plenty of room for additional volunteers, according to organizers. Founded by Jim Davis and Erin Volz, the group is looking for volunteers willing to donate two hours once a month to clean a different one-mile stretch of roadway in Edgemere. In this first effort, volunteers will meet at 1 p.m. at the now-closed Shallow Creek Bookstore Cafe (7216 North Point Road) to organize and start cleaning, according to a Facebook message from Davis. Asked if the program was modeled after the state's well-known Adopt-a-Highway program, Davis said local residents shouldn't look at it that way. "Well, if locals get involved, they aren't really adopting anything…
