The Dundalk Heritage Fair Association has announced the headline acts for this year's Heritage Fair, set for June 28, 29 and 30, in Heritage Fair in downtown Dundalk. Friday night will be devoted to tribute acts, with Almost Queen and The Mahoney Brothers taking Stage 1. Three Dog Night will be the main attraction Saturday night and Jefferson Starship will close out the festival on Sunday night. Heritage Fair started in 1976 as a celebration of the nation's bicentennial, and was intended to be a one-time event. The festival proved to be so successful that organizers were convinced to continue the production. The three-day event has two stages plus a third one in the beer garden that features karaoke. More entertainment information will be …

The small village green known as Heritage Park becomes a temporary village of a different sort when it hosts Dundalk's Heritage Fair each year. The fair, started as a one-time celebration of the nation's bicentennial in 1976, has morphed into what local residents like to claim is the nation's longest (and some say biggest) Independence Day celebration. Musical acts, carnival rides, arts and crafts areas, food booths and a beer garden all combine to become the party that offers something for all ages. Enjoy these pictures of the 2012 Heritage Fair, and please add any of yours that you would like to share with your neighbors.

Heritage Park took a wallop Friday night when the storm rolled through town, but the relentless efforts of volunteers enabled Heritage Fair to reopen a few hours late on Saturday and finish with a flair on Sunday. Dundalk's annual three-day Independence Day celebration attracted big crowds with big-name acts like Dennis DeYoung and Joan Jett and an entertainment and activity schedule that included something for all ages. Friday's schedule got off without a hitch, as the thunderstorm rolled in after DeYoung called it a night and the crowds left the park. Overnight, strong winds and rain played havoc on vendor booths and goods, and the park lost power for a time, according to fair volunteer Marilyn Doyle. "There was a power problem, but it …

Tribute bands will take the main stage to close out this year's Independence Day celebration in Dundalk.
It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that's the case, Dundalk's Heritage Park will be full of sincerity today when four tribute bands take Heritage Fair's main stage by storm. The idea to have a slate of bands in a themed entertainment lineup is new this year, according to fair organizers. "We're really hoping people like the tribute band day," volunteer Marilyn Doyle said Saturday. "And we hope it goes well enough to give us incentive to do it again next year." The Stage 1 concerts paying homage to big acts get under way at 1:30 p.m. when Captain Fantastic will fill the park with the sounds of Elton John. Journey tribute band Odyssey Road will perform at 3:30 p.m., followed by Almost Queen (Queen) at 5:30 p.m. …

The temperatures are near-record high, but the heat will turn up even more tonight when Joan Jett and the Blackhearts take the stage at Dundalk's Heritage Fair. As big as Friday night's crowd for Dennis DeYoung was— with people standing on or sitting in every available spot from one side of Heritage Park to the other, officials expect an even bigger crowd for Jett, who grew up in Montgomery County. The fair is always at the mercy of weather, and late June and early July can be unpredictable, with the possibilities of sudden thunderstorms and triple-digit temperatures. With three days of extreme heat in store for the event, fait entertainment chairman Bob Fogle said he remains an optimist and hopes people turn out for the celebration …

Pigs might not fly at this year's Heritage Fair, and they probably won't go "wee, wee, wee" all the way home, but they will definitely go swimming. That's right—they'll swim! The popular pig races, a staple of the three-day festival for many years, will have a new twist this year when the piglets race in water instead of on the ground. The porcine races will be held every 90 minutes from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The swimming pigs attraction is just one of many new features at this year's three-day Independence Day celebration, according to entertainment chairman Bob Fogle. An expanded "kids' row" will include a reading area (where 3,000 children's books will be given away), a bounce apparatus, rock-climbing wall, and a Boy …
