Shorthanded Ravens to Test Backups in Preseason Opener

Fans will get a first real-time look at the Ravens squad Thursday night.

The Baltimore Ravens will face off against the Atlanta Falcons tonight in the first pre-season game for both teams, but not every player expected to start Week 1 will be on the field today. Of course, the biggest loss for the Ravens this offseason was the achilles tendon injury to linebacker Terrell Suggs, who will miss at least a portion of the season. Ravens 'Coming Home' Sunday Against Texans

The Ravens rally as they prepare to host their first playoff game in five years at 1 p.m. Sunday against the Houston Texans.

The Ravens are 'coming home' on Sunday for their first NFL playoff game in Baltimore in five years when they host the Houston Texans in an AFC Divisional game at 1 p.m. at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens (12-4) went 8-0 at home this season, including a 29-14 win over the Texans on Oct. 16. Despite the success at home during the regular season, the Ravens are just 1-2 in the postseason in Baltimore. That lone win came 11 years ago when the Ravens defeated the Broncos, 21-3, in an AFC Wild Card round en route to a victory in Super Bowl XXXV. Harbaughs Take Sibling Rivalry to New Level

The head coaches will be the first brothers to compete against each other in an NFL game when the Ravens host the San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh remembers as a child converting sleeveless T-shirts into different Big Ten uniforms and competing in makeshift football games against his younger brother, Jim. Purple Thursday for Many on Thanksgiving

With the Ravens set to host the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, many fans are adjusting their holiday plans accordingly.

Vivian Kerner usually is busy preparing a golden brown turkey on Thanksgiving. The 34-year-old Chase resident almost always has the holiday meal set for 4:30 p.m. at her house with her husband, two daughters and the rest of her family. But a purple and black bird has Kerner changing her plans this year. The Ravens are set to host the San Francisco 49ers in an 8:30 p.m. Thanksgiving NFL showdown at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
