Baltimore County Police have charged an Annapolis man with murder in the death of Owings Mills resident Katie Hadel. Jeffrey Michael Shiflett, 33, of the 1700 block of Saint Margarets Road in Annapolis, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to a Baltimore County Police press release. He was arrested without incident Wednesday morning shortly after 11 a.m. when an officer spotted him walking on the street in the Reisterstown area, police said. He is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. UPDATE 1:25 p.m. Feb. 6: Baltimore County Police arrested a 33-year-old man Wednesday morning in an Owings Mills homicide. Police found the body of Katie Hadel, 33, in her apartment on Wellhaven Circle Tuesday night while responding to a domestic disturbance report. Two small children were found unharmed in the apartment, according to a police press release. Hadel was stabbed multiple times and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. At 10:09 p.m. Tuesday, officers from the Pikesville precinct were called to the unit block of Wellhaven Circle. Baltimore County Police charged an 18-year-old Glen Burnie man who lost money gambling with making a false statement after he told police he was robbed at the Owings Mills Mall.
It’s never a good idea to call the police to help settle your gambling debt. A Glen Burnie man was charged with making a false statement after he did just that. Cedrick James Brinkley, 18, of the 100 block of 5th Avenue in Glen Burnie, told police on Tuesday, Sept. 25, that armed robbers took clothing and cash from him when he was at the Owings Mills Mall the previous day, according to information provided by Baltimore County Police Franklin Precinct No. 3. Police learned that the man was not at the mall that day by interviewing mall employees and reviewing surveillance footage. Brinkley was interviewed again, and he told police he lost the money gambling, police said. He was charged on a summons for making a false statement.

Musa N. Agroh, 34, received five years of probation for second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult in an incident from May 2011.
An Owings Mills woman was sentenced to five years of probation after being found guilty of second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult. Musa N. Agroh, 34, was sentenced to 18 months of incarceration, all of which were suspended. She received the five years of probation, must perform 80 hours of community service in the next 120 days and cannot supervise vulnerable adults for five years, according to a release from Attorney General Douglas Gansler. Baltimore County Circuit Judge Michael Finifter accepted Agroh’s guilty plea at a Friday hearing, according to the statement. “The abuse of a vulnerable individual is a tragic violation of trust,” Gansler said. “When placed in the hands of others, vulnerable group home residents and their families …

Anthony Maurice Cottle faces five charges for sexually abusing two teenage boys in the spring of 2012.
Baltimore County Police have charged a 23-year-old Owings Mills man with sexually abusing two 14-year-old boys this spring. Anthony Maurice Cottle, of the unit block of Stonemark Court, is charged with sexual abuse of a minor, fourth-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, third-degree sex offense and sodomy, according to a Baltimore County Police press release. He is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $150,000 bond. Cottle has been employed with the Baltimore County Fire Department since December 2011, but has been suspended without pay pending adjudication of the criminal charges. A burglar who stole several items from an Owings Mills home left something for the homeowners: feces. According to Baltimore County Police, a burglar stole a crystal bowl, two crystal golf statues, two picture frames, four or five porcelain dolls and left feces on the front porch of a home on a private road in the Caves Valley Golf Club area in Owings Mills on Sunday, Sept. 30. Police believe the burglar is somebody known to the victim, but that feces have not been involved in previous incidents. “Feces on the front porch?” said Lt. Stephen Doarnberger, assistant commander of the Baltimore County Police’s Franklin Precinct. “That’s new.” The incident occurred between 6:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., according to a police report.
