Owings Mills Man Convicted of First-Degree Murder

Elrich Smith, 19, of Owings Mills faces life without parole in the 2011 murder of a 17-year-old female in Randallstown.

A 19-year-old Owings Mills man was convicted of first-degree murder Friday in connection with the 2011 shooting of a 17-year-old female. Elrich Smith, of the 900 block of Joshua Tree Court, faces the maximum penalty of life without the possibility of parole for the July 24, 2011, murder of Katelyn Messina, according to a press release from the Maryland State’s Attorney for Baltimore County. Smith was convicted by a jury in the Baltimore County Circuit Court. Smith and Ryan McLean lured Darnell Hill and Katelyn Messina to a cul-de-sac off of Chapeldale Road in Randallstown to try to kill Hill over a gang dispute. Hill was shot once in the back and survived. Messina was shot four times in the head, chest and back and died from the gunshot …
