Ed, Once again I will answer about the Baltimore Colts. I was fortunate enough also to travel with the team and that I will never forget. Caroll Rosenbloom (CR) as we called him was a great ownner. The Colts used to have open arms to everyone who came in contact with them. I remember once when some race relations was a minor subject in the locker room, The president of the Baltimore Colts Don …   more ›

Throwing a Big Party Sunday? Try These Recipes

Dundalk Patch reader Tracey Boylston shares some New Orleans-style recipes she plans to prepare for her football party Sunday.

If her recipes are any indication, it sure looks like Carnegie Platt resident Tracey Boylston has one heck of a party planned for Sunday when the Ravens take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. In a nod to host city New Orleans, Boylston has a menu planned that has quite a Cajun flair. She plans to serve several "N’awlins" style dishes, including a couple of traditional Baltimore dishes kicked up a bit for the occasion. Boylston shared the following recipes—some original and others from the sources noted—with her fellow Patch readers and Ravens fans: Baltimore Maryland Crab Dip – N’awlins Style Taken from cajundelights.blogspot.com Ingredients: 1 lb. Maryland lump crab meat 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1 cup onion, finely …

Torrey Smith's High School Coach Riffs on the Ravens

Although Falls Church High School Football Coach Said Aziz thinks the 49ers are going to win the Super Bowl, he hopes Smith, who he coached in 2005, has a great game.

Ask Falls Church High School Head Football Coach Said Aziz whom he thinks will win Super Bowl XLVII and he won’t hesitate to say it’s the San Francisco 49ers. Aziz, however, does want to his former Stafford High School player and now Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, to have a good game. In 2005 when Smith was quarterback at Stafford in Northern Virginia, Aziz was the offensive line coach and defensive coordinator. “He was a really good kid,” Aziz said Friday. “I do want Torrey to have a good game.” According to the Ravens website, before playing his college football at the University of Maryland, Smith earned honorable mention All-Northwest Region as a quarterback his senior year. Smith also earned All-District academic honors …

Super Bowl XLVII: The Harbaughs

Harbaugh Family: Growing Up as Joani Harbaugh

Super Bowl XLVII pits the 49ers' Jim Harbaugh against the Ravens' John Harbaugh. Patch shares the story of the Harbaugh family leading into Super Bowl Sunday.

Finding time with dad can be a challenge when your father is a college football coach. It can be especially challenging if you're the lone daughter amongst three siblings. For Joani Harbaugh, spending time with her father, Jack Harbaugh, meant tagging along to practices. "Well, it was your life. I didn’t know I was in a coaching environment, I just felt that was how we lived, that’s what my dad did for a living," she said on a national media conference call last week. "Luckily, I think as parents, they involved their kids in their professional life. So if dad had practice, mom took us out to practice; that’s how we saw dad in the afternoon. Or we sat down at the kitchen table and I’d color his scouting reports because he was working, so …

Both Ravens, 49ers Due For Super Bowl Losses

The NFL franchises from Baltimore and San Francisco are both likely to lose Sunday.

They're playing for the Lombardi Trophy, but the Ravens and 49ers are both headed toward a loss on Sunday. Executives from the franchises set to meet in Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday told Bloomberg Businessweek that the organizations are set to lose money. Ravens President Dick Cass told the publication the bill is "significant." “You lose money," he said. "But there are long-term benefits that pay off later. Hey, we work hard all year long to go to the Super Bowl. I don’t think anybody would trade off a short-term loss for winning a Super Bowl." Last postseason, the Giants were to pay out an $88,000 share per player for winning the Super Bowl alone, according to Forbes.com. That would be on top of a $40,000 reward for winning the conference …

Super Bowl XLVII: The Harbaughs

Harbaugh Family: Who Is Mom's Favorite?

Super Bowl XLVII pits the 49ers' Jim Harbaugh against the Ravens' John Harbaugh. Patch shares the story of the Harbaugh family leading into Super Bowl Sunday.

They'll take an objective approach Sunday. Jackie Harbaugh and her daughter, Joani, vow to wear neutral clothes. Jack Harbaugh said he'll take off his coach's hat and just play the role of Dad. When it comes to Super Bowl coaches John and Jim Harbaugh, their family doesn't play favorites. But that didn't stop John from interrupting a nationwide media conference call last week to double-check. "Is it true that both of you like Jim better than John?," asked a Baltimore caller named John. Joani knew immediately that the voice on the other end was her brother. But there was a dramatic pause from Momma Harbaugh. "Is that John?," Jackie finally asked. "Is that John Harbaugh?" Dad followed up, amid laughter. "Mom was ready to come right through …
