A survey by Goucher College finds support on issues from banning assault-style weapons and ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds to fingerprinting and prohibitions on owning weapons for persons who are involuntarily committed.
From bans on assault-style weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines to fingerprinting anyone purchasing a gun, a new poll finds that a majority of Marylanders want stricter state gun laws. Eighty-two percent of those surveyed in a poll conducted by the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center at Goucher College believe those purchasing a gun should be fingerprinted. The poll also found: Last month the Maryland Senate approved sweeping changes to gun laws that requires a license for all handgun purchases, bans of sales of assault-style weapons and ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds, requires fingerprinting for new gun purchases, and prohibits anyone involuntarily committed involuntarily for mental health reasons or who …

The Baltimore County police chief decried gun violence on WYPR's Midday with Dan Rodricks radio show.
Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson continued his crusade against civilians owning assault weapons during a Thursday appearance on WYPR's Midday with Dan Rodricks. The police chief said opponents of assault weapon bans frequently cite home invasions as a reason to possess them, but pointed out that there is no "serious chronic problem with home invasions" in Baltimore County. "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," the NRA's Wayne LaPierre said.
In an amazing Friday morning press conference, the National Rifle Association broke its weeklong silence following the horrific shooting of 26 people at a school in Newtown, CT and called for a surge of gun-carrying "good guys" around American schools. Baltimore County Public Schools already has school resource officers at most of its middle and high schools. Police patrols around schools without resource officers, mainly elementary schools, have increased following the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Ct. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre called for a new kind of American domestic security revolving around armed civilians, arguing that "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with…
