An off-duty Baltimore City Police officer was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment after pointing his departmentally-issued handgun at people in Towson. Matthew David Daugherty, 28, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning and later released on $75,000 bail. Baltimore County Police responded to the Rec Room at 512 York Road in Towson at 2:15 a.m., where an employee told them an intoxicated off-duty city officer was acting belligerent and saying he had a gun. The employee took car keys from the man as the bar was closing because he appeared too intoxicated to drive, according to a police press release. A Middle River man on Wednesday became the 11th Baltimore City police officer sentenced in an illegal towing scheme involving a Rosedale auto shop. Rodney Cintron, 32, of Middle River, was sentenced to to 42 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release on charges of conspiracy to commit and committing extortion, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland. The owners of Majestic Auto Repair paid Cintron and other Baltimore City police officers to arrange for their company—rather than a city-authorized business—to tow vehicles from accident scenes and make repairs, according to a news release. A 33-year-old Baltimore City police officer is the latest law enforcement officer to plead guilty to illegally steering car accident victims to a Rosedale auto repair shop. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland, Jhonn Corona of Rosedale pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court to "conspiracy to commit and committing extortion under color of official right" in connection with the scheme.
