Baltimore County Working to Correct Oliver Beach Water Problem

Residents along Greenbank Road are experiencing discolored tap water.

Baltimore County's Department of Public Works is working to correct a problem that has caused discolored tap water in the Oliver Beach neighborhood of Middle River. Residents in the area of Greenbank Road reported the discolored water Wednesday, according to a statement from the public works department. The water, which officials say is safe to drink, was apparently discolored by disturbed sediment in the water system. Contractual workers will begin flushing hydrants as a slow rate this afternoon, according to spokesman David Fidler. The water is expected to clear up later today or early Thursday. Oliver Beach Couple Wins $1 Million From Scratch-Off

Anna Belle Davis bought the winning ticket at a Royal Farms store in Chase.

Rick Davis was already having a great Sunday as he watched the Ravens handle the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL opening week game. Little did he know, his day was about to get much better. Dundalk Native 1 of 2 Women on County Council

Oliver Beach Democrat Cathy Bevins, a Dundalk High grad, used to sit in the back at community meetings. Now she's in the spotlight.

Cathy Bevins frequently attended community and civic meetings, but she used to sit in the back. As former Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith's constituent services coordinator for the eastside of the county, Bevins was supposed to work behind the scenes. But now, as the new Baltimore County Council member representing District 6, which includes Middle River, Overlea and Fullerton, the 51-year-old Bevins is in the spotlight. "It's a little surreal standing in the front of the room," says Bevins, an Oliver Beach Democrat and Dundalk native. Take the recent "Issues and Eggs breakfast," an annual "must" political event sponsored by the Marine Trades Association of Baltimore County  and the Essex-Middle River-White Marsh Chamber of Commerce…

I would ask that as a councilwoman, Mrs. Bevins take a hard look at Baltimore County's rapidly expanding SS budget. Food stamps doubled last year to $99 million. There are other issues like the schools boards estimated $49 million budget shortfall. Mrs. Bevins has to be honest with herself and take a real look at the issues that are impacting taxpayers. For example what is the cost of the ESOL …   more ›
