ReplyAfter all of this I still believe if David can hold this second job legally without any conflicts of interest , this is a data entry issue, not a conflict of interest issue. It is impossible for anyone who has ever held office, to not make mistakes. The key feature is that these mistakes are reported so we who are affected by someone else’s actions can observe the make up and character of the individuals charged with acting on or behalf. Are they using their office to better their own lives? While it is largely a rhetorical question , the question remains on whose behalf are public officials acting ? Is this a symptom or merely a mistake? What is the cure?

ReplyI think Don Mohler hit the nail on the head when he said politicians are human. The problem is not the constitutes ability to understand that but the politicians ability to understand that constitutes are human. The school issue aside KK got a does of his own medicine, Physician heal thy self.

@Eric
Actually Kevin K is doing the work of his constituents and in that regard he is outstanding. People vote platforms, platforms are formed around individuals who support interests you join and donate to, to get that candidate elected and that candidate does the bidding of those groups. Apparently folks think their guy represents individual issues and constituents. I don’t know if even as a practical matter, KK or any political figure could do their job very well on a individual constituent to constituent basis but what is more important is to understand he does not. Getting chastised by and being minimized by a politician is a lot more self fulfilling prophecy on the voting publics part then it is contempt on the politicians behalf. -

@Buzz Thanks I have never had any trouble with public or private verbal conversation but written and computer skills are something I need to work on a great deal. Also Thank You for pointing out the law. I have met David and my all appearances he seems like a regular normal politician. I don't really hold much against him except for maybe that lone fact. I really believe if people understood what a person has to do to get elected they may see the conflict of interest from day one. I am not being a smart A$$ just honest.

Bart That is what I say about things I post also. I spell check them and they get corrected and then the original get printed and I have no idea how to go back and fix it once it does. what I wanted it to say was this.
If one explores the very real personal compromises of integrity any party or platform candidate has to make in order to even be on a party ticket then any and all miscues that follow are a forgone conclusion. If that is not a scandal then I hardly think this is. It may be par for the political course but hardly could we call it a scandal.
The short point is if any person here inquires as to what they have to do run for office as a Republican or a Democratic candidate, the first thing you will have to do is compromise yourself. Once that is done all the follows is to be expected. But this oversight by David I would hardly call a scandal

ReplyI was left under the impression by other county workers I know and that it was established in a earlier article or a post under that article, that the county takes your car in these situations, that it must be relinquished . Is this true? If so, I am not sure volunteered illustrates what influenced his decision if in fact he conceded to his fate to spare further embarrassment in the process. If he attempted to portray it as different would be also of interest to determine if he is remorseful or spinning.
It is hard for me to want to judge his actions when he was drunk as the legal system can address that but his reaction to his behavior in a sober moment and spinning would give me a different read.

I respect and admire the service people but his being a full time member of the service is a career path jut like anyone else who relocates it is not the same as a being penalized because you were away from your home town on a deployment. In any case I hate to think that this could be the difference between getting a candidate with executive leadership skills and what we have in local government top to bottom.
Where he lost me at taking him seriously is his running as a platform candidate. When one explores what they need to do and the personal compromises they have to make on their own ideals in order to gain support and to be a Republican or a Democrat he has already proven he has integrity issues. Like all the rest after seeking advise he is able to rationalize such choices as showing he can be diplomatic. We have enough of these so called diplomatic thinkers now in Baltimore County.
