'Accidental Bomber' Still Grounded at Middle River ANG Base

The Air National Guard plane accidentally dropped a practice bomb on the parking lot of an Eastern Shore bar late last month.

The A-10 Warthog jet that accidentally dropped a practice bomb on the parking lot of an Eastern Shore bar Aug. 29 remains grounded pending the completion of an investigation of the mishap.

The plane is grounded at the Warfield Air National Guard Base in Middle River as of Wednesday, according to Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Charles S. Kohler.

The jet from the 104th Fighter Squadron of the 175th Wing was returning from a training mission when the mishap occurred, according to an Associated Press report.

A customer at Darlene's tavern in Sudlersville said that the inert device created a 3-foot-deep hole in the business's parking lot.

No one was injured in the mishap.

Kohler told AP last month that an electronic failure may be to blame.
