Celebrating Sen. Norman Stone's 50 years of Service

State Sen. Norman Stone recently celebrated 50 years of public leadership at Costas Inn, located on North Point Boulevard in Dundalk. Accompaning Sen. Stone was his wife JoAnne, who serves as his legislative assistant.

The overflow crowd at the event drew a “who’s who,” list of friends from all walks of life, including elected officials from county government. 

The Battle Grove Democratic Club, minus their President Tim (Tank) Holland, who could not attend because of a medical issue, helped sponsor the event. Friends of Mr. Holland wished him a speedy recovery.

Sen. Stone's legislative aid, Fred Theiss, served as master of ceremonies.

The Democratic Senator, who represents the 6th district, began his career in 1962 in the House of Delegates before being elected to the Senate in 1967, where he still serves. Sen. Stone ranks third in the country as the longest serving elected offical. 

Del. Joseph "Sonny" Minnink, also in attendance, has served with Sen. Stone for 20 years. 

Some of the notable past and present political and civic leaders included former county council member Joe Bartenfelder, North Point Penninsula Community President Harry Wujek, and former councilman Sam Moxley, representing Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. Also among the guests were Baltimore County Council Chairman John Olszewski, Sr., Del. John Olsewski, Jr., and Ed Crizer, chairman of the county redistricting committee. Del. Mike Weir and Clerk of the County Circuit Court Julie Ensor were also present.

Baltimore County’s States Attorney Scott Shellenberger mingled with political hopefuls Bud Staigerwald, and the ever-present Eric Washington. Fraternal Order of Police President Cole Weston was also seen enjoying a hearty breakfast.
