It is, and is ever becoming more, humbling to be in the position of offering myself as a candidate for the office of Baltimore County Executive.  Many people have expressed displeasure with government in general and especially with the ever-increasing taxation, fees, and spending.  Baltimore County has held the line on tax rates for over 20 years while the budget has continued to grow.  While rates may be constant, we are all paying more each and every year as a consequence of expanding property tax assessments, and increases in fees and other “taxes” – insert storm water fee or rain tax.

Many new and expanding businesses have decided to leave Baltimore County for other counties and states, partially because of business circumstances – insert “higher business and personal taxes”.  These business and job losses mean lower revenue growth for government functions.  My plan for the County is to lower taxes and bring back businesses and jobs thus giving us the income to further reduce tax rates.  The other great disappointment that the citizens have with government is a sense of cronyism and a corresponding lack of openness to public review and comment.  This will not be a part of my administration.

As an alternative to the current administration, I offer an open and honest government that is willing to seek ideas and opinions from all sectors of the community in regard to the issues.  My administration will not be guided by those with entrenched agreements and understandings.  This will require a period of adjustment, but will result in the type of government that we all deserve.

I am fully aware of the need for agricultural land preservation and watershed protection, but will implement these goals with a full recognition of property rights and values.  Development is a key component of the County economy and we will pursue projects with a balanced perspective of the environment and the economy.

We are running a grass roots campaign and are seeking support from all like-minded individuals in the County.  Please offer whatever time or talents you may have, or supplement our austere campaign fund.

Contact us via email at: electgeorgeharman@outlook.com or send contributions as indicated in the attached pages.

Remember, June 24th is the official voting day, with early voting the week prior.

Again, with my humble appeal for support, please give our above concepts careful consideration.

George Harman
